Kohki Ohsumi grew up in Hamamatsu, Japan, where he developed his love for the sport of soccer. After he earned his bachelor’s degree in Japan, Ohsumi came to San Diego to fulfill his passion by immediately establishing the USL League 2 (Formerly the USL Premier Development League) club San Diego Zest FC and was its General Manager over four years. Ohsumi also successfully organized four pro soccer combines in Fukuoka, Japan and San Diego, CA to provide local and international soccer players an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of professional soccer coaches and scouts.

During his time with San Diego Zest FC, Ohsumi’s providing a platform for soccer prospects to pursue a professional soccer playing career led to four American players from the team making it to the professional level. One of those players include Erik Holt, a two-time First Team All Pac-12 player as a member of the UCLA Bruins soccer team and a member of Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake as of 2020. Ohsumi also personally assisted fourteen Japanese players, four South Korean players, and two French players who were chasing their dreams of becoming professional soccer players here in the United States. One of the players who entrusted Ohsumi to guide his journey to the professional level was French Center Back Abdoulaye Cissoko, who eventually signed with the USL Championship’s Tacoma Defiance and currently plays for Seattle Sounders FC, MLS.

After four seasons with San Diego Zest FC, professional soccer club San Diego 1904 FC of the NISA (National Independent Soccer Association) signed Ohsumi to become its Team Manager for its inaugural season. He currently manages MIA Elite Academy and hosts soccer events to support youth soccer player’s pathway to the next level.
